“When Will Things Get Back to Normal?”

Economist Mariana Mazzucato (UCL Professor, Director of Institute for Innovation & Public Purpose and noted author) suggests that this is the wrong question to be asking as we work to reopen amidst COVID-19.

As she stated in a TED2020 virtual talk on Monday of this week, “Really, my view is that we need to do everything we can not to go back to normal, because normal was part of the problem.”

The Croixstone team wholeheartedly agrees with the concept that 2020 has delivered an opportunity to fix problematic corporate governance and business structures, and to reimagine ways to do capitalism differently.

Today, we are focused on the art and science of reimagining the future to build stronger organizations, corporations and communities.

So How Is The Labor Market Looking?

Given our connectivity with middle market and large corporations across the greater Charlotte region, the Croixstone team is asked this question almost every day.

Our answer?  It’s simple.
The story varies greatly based on education level attained.

As of May 2020, the unemployment rate for those with a Bachelors degree or higher was significantly lower than the 15.0% rate for high school graduates with no college degree:

  • Bachelors Degree:  8.4%
  • Masters Degree:  5.6%
  • Professional Degree:  5.9%
  • Doctoral Degree:  3.5%

Keep in mind that economists have long believed that the overall economy is at “full employment” at a rate of around 5%.

Based on our understanding of these rates and ongoing discussions with c-suite leaders, the Croixstone team believes ample career opportunities continue to exist for highly-educated professionals in today’s workforce.

That said, the market is certainly more competitive in 2020 than the past several years.  For that reason, professionals in career transition mode are wise to focus on their personal branding and professional networking strategies to ensure a competitive edge.

Goodbye Uptown. Hello NoDa!

Anyone who knows the Croixstone team knows that we’re changemakers at heart.  And this week we’re thrilled to announce a big change as we relocated in June 2020 to a larger office in Charlotte’s NoDa district.

The historic events of 2020 will catalyze seismic changes in both American society and business.  We can’t think of a better place to foster the creativity needed to drive these changes than Charlotte’s beloved arts district.

As long-term community members and supporters of Industrious Charlotte, we’re pioneering as Industrious NoDa has opened the district’s first Class A office space in a converted warehouse (originally part of the historic Newco Fibre Mill complex near North Davidson and 36th Streets).

While COVID-19 still has us social distancing and largely working from home, the Croixstone team invites you to virtually tour our new home here.
